Trip Overview
Gearhaus Roadtrip III was our biggest adventure yet, covering 1,600km across 10 counties in just four days. The journey started in Nairobi, heading through Thika and Mwingi before making its way to Garissa. From there we travelled through the Tana Delta to Malindi on the coast, then turned inland via Voi and Mtito Andei before returning to Nairobi. The full itinerary, gallery and film are on the way.

The planning of the event was top tier and quite clear. We had an amazing time and got to see another side of Kenya. I loved the laidback approach of "do as you please as long as you follow the convoy and its rules with no pressure ''. Being one of the cars that suffered some mechanical issues , I would appreciate if we had more mechanics on the trip for help as the numbers delivered no help. Also since the culture is growing and more cars will join think of phased depature times approach to reduce traffic build up as we convoy. Communication should improve. Looking forward to the next trip 💯
An impressive drive, certainly one for the records. Next time, I might arrange the convoy using criteria such as vehicle type and driver capabilities or interests; for instance, performance cars could form one group, SUVs another, and relaxed drivers a third. Walkie talkies would help with communication and coordination, the app we had was okay but it kept heating up devices and crashing. So on the day of the drive, anyone who owns a walkie talkie can tune into a general channel for the drive. Organisers can have their own private channel as well. Looking forward to the next one!
Good Planning, very interesting route, and the day in between to rest was a big plus. Areas of improvement: 1. Mechanics and response team was not available at all when we had challenges with our vehicle and even made calls to the organisers but no help whatsoever 2. Next time develop a detailed route description atleast per 10KM describing the general details of the area like bumps, potholes, rough roads, towns and all. 3. Would be good to have a communication platform that could accommodate atleast 2 people per vehicles. Some of us had limited engagement
The drive was amazing. Excellent timings for departures and stops. I really recommend next time grouping cars by capability to handle uncertain terrain on long trips. Useful data on the forms would be car make, model, type, engine size. Will help strategize on grouping cars by who can handle high speed vs rough terrain, and groups to put at the front vs back. Help with safety and visibility when everyone's trying to arrive before dark. See biker trips' strategies. AND need SUVs for the lead and safety cars. Kudos to organizers for keeping everyone cool under pressure! 💯
